Despite difficult weather, the nearly 65 Indian workers reached Washingon D.C. after their peace action march, or “satyagrhah.” During an hour-long demonstration outside the White House, the workers ripped up large photocopies of their H2B visas in protest.

The workers as well as supporters from several D.C.-based rights organizations and petitioned Congress to investigate the abuse of the H2B visa system that was used to exploit them, as well as the actions of their former employer, Signal International, a Northrop Grumman subcontractor, which is already the subject of a criminal human trafficking investigation by the Department of Justice.

Note (April 10, 2008): a couple of days ago, Altnet posted a great piece about the march, which you can read here.
